The Library of Liaoning University of Science and Technology(LNUST) founded in 1958,has developed into a modern ,multi-functional andcomprehensive library, and possesses a stack system which consists of variety of subject literatures of Science Engineering as mainstay and Art and Management as supplement, on both multi-carrying mediums and in multi-languages .

The library, with 25, 000 square meters in construction area, is located in the high-tech district of Anshan city near the northern QianshanMountains, surrounded with a beautiful scenery. To the west end of the floor No.1 of its building is a stack room for dense collection and a net centre, to the east are coping-typing centre, a bookshop and a listening-reading room and a reader-serving department as well. To the east floor No.2 is an official area, to the west is self-studying area, which provides readers with a comfortable and quiet studying environment. In central area is arranged a multi-functional hall which may hold over 200 people and a small room for conference as well. In the floor No.3 is mainly an area for lending-reading Chinese’s books, while in the floor No.4 is an area for lending-reading foreign language’s books and a reading area for foreign language’s journals as well. In the building, lending-reading is openly carried out: readers may consult any of books in it by themselves, thus making them feel very convenient. In the floor No.5 is mainly reading rooms for researching special literatures and multi-mediums and electronic- reading rooms. In a word, the building, having both a reasonable structure and full functions from it, may provide multi-sort and level’s service such as reference-consulting, reading, lending, information-researching, exchanging of inter-libraries, literature-printing, copying and binding.

The resources in LNUST’s library are more and more increasing due to the long efforts of generations of librarians. Nowadays, its total sum of stack books reaches over 900,000 and with types of 110000.including 100,000 of foreign language’s books and over 2500 of Chinese’s journals (current ones).Besides, the resources of non-paper medium include: 120,000 of electronic books, 58.000 of electronic journals and 17,000 of CD, which almost cover all majors in ASUST. Its lending rate is 6500/week on the average in books and 300 in old journals. There are seats of over 4,000 in various reading rooms so that they may basically meet the need of readers. LNUST’s library here promises readers its 24 hours service by its net.

The library includes the departments of literature-building, journal-reading, Circulation, information-consulting, modern technology, reader-serving, and office(director office and General Affairs office).

In the library there are staffs of 64, of which 1 is with academic degree of doctor (director) and 6 with master; 56 who graduated from Universities and colleges; 10 with the title senior librarian, 43 medium and 11 assistant one.

With high quality and booming spirit, we keep service in constant improvement, for example, in 2005, we obtained the qualification of submitting data to CALIS took part in its exchanging of CALIS inter-libraries, and realized services of information-consulting. Besides, the column in our main page “words of readers” has become an important bridge of communication between librarians and readers. With the ideas of “reader is put in first position and service is above all”in our minds, we will make more contributions to our university and library, with our ardor and highly efficient services.
